At the VCT 2022 Stage 1 Masters Reykjavik event, which started with the match played between the South Korean DRX and the Japanese ZETA DIVISION teams, the first Covid-19 case was announced.

A statement signed by Riot Games Global Competitive Operations President Alex Francois was published on the VALORANT Champions Tour Twitter account, and information about the latest situation at the event was shared. Stating that the health and safety of the players and staff are their highest priority, Francois stated that all participants who have been vaccinated or whose test is negative are required to be kept in quarantine and tested regularly during this period, while all participants should periodically perform PCR and antigen tests during the event.

In the continuation of the statement, it was announced that during these mandatory tests, a member of a LOUD team tested positive for Covid-19. Alex Francois, Head of Global Competitive Operations at Riot Games, explained the situation on how the matches will be played:

“Our policy is that if a player tests positive for COVID-19 but feels well enough to compete and chooses to play, the affected team and their opponent play the scheduled match on a LAN network located in quarantine facilities. The player who tests positive will fight from an isolated room, while his teammates and the opposing team will compete in two nearby rooms. The order of the matches on a given day may change.”

Erick “aspas” Santos, player of the LOUD team, which was entitled to compete in the VCT 2022 Stage 1 Masters Reykjavik due to his success in the VCT 2022 Brazil Stage 1 Challengers event, shared on Twitter that the person whose Covid-19 test was positive was himself.

In a statement in Portuguese on his Twitter account, aspas said, “My COVID test has been positive and I am here in isolation in a hotel room with my Setup. I am very mild without symptoms and have had 3 doses of the vaccine. You can be calm and carefree and everything will be fine.” used his words.

“One of our players has tested positive for COVID and has been isolated from the others. Aspas is asymptomatic and has 3 doses of vaccine up to date, so you can be carefree. Our game is still in progress and we will be back with more information soon.”
